Screwball

Screwball
By Keri Mikulski

I won a copy of this from Jessica Burkhart's site.

Screwball is all about Ashley Clarke, age fourteen. Ashley's whole life revolves around her softball, as encouraged by her family - she's the starting pitcher for her fourteen and under team, she's on the soccer and basketball team, and her BFF, Lizzy, is awesome to hang out with. And even better, over the summer her and the hot junior Andrew hooked up - how could life be any better?

But, of course, her friend Kate manages to convince her to join the sixteen and under team, and life totally changes. The other pitcher on the team, Christy, seems to have it out for her, and she's spending less time with Andrew. When Andrew begins to ignore her, and Christy starts openly hating her, Ashley just wants to curl up in a corner and cry. What is there left for her to do... but fight back?

I really enjoyed this book, and I don't even play sports. I was able to relate to Ashley and feel what she felt, and I managed to keep up with the sports throughout the whole book. I was able to put it down, but it was nicely written overall, and I would happily read a sequel.

Screwball or Game?: Game focuses more on the sport while Screwball varied equally between her sports and her life outside of baseball, but both are equally enjoyable.

Rating: 8/10

Happy reading!
