Frenemies

Frenemies
By Alexa Young
Comes Out May 13

I had high hopes for this book. After all, I read Alexa's blog - and she's funny, sassy, and very well written. So her book has to be good... right? Right?

When I finally got my ARC, I nervously opened the cover (screamed because she had autographed it) and promptly fell asleep because it was nine o'clock at night and I was exhausted.

I opened it again before first period today... and... and...

It's good. ^^

Frenemies tells the story of two best friends - Avalon Greene and Halley Brandon, the dynamic duo known as Havalon. They've been separated for the whole summer while Halley was at art camp, and both friends are stoked to be back together for the school year. But when Halley's new artistic style clashes with Avalon's preppy looks, well, sparks fly - and a very huge fire starts.

The once besties can no longer agree on /anything/, from who's cool in school to what clothes to wear. So when their teacher suggests a fashion blog, the two think that it's the perfect time to prove their friendship - after all, they've been playing a 'Yes, No, Maybe' game between them for years.

Oh, how very wrong they were.

Halley's advice clashes totally with Avalon's, and now they two former friends are in a full out war. Everything is split up - from their friends to their clubs, even the days they get to hang out with their dog, Pucci. One of the two /must/ cave - and when your opponent knows your weaknesses, fighting back is hard. Who will win - and can the school survive such a war?

I loved Alexa, and I love her book just as much. The sassy, funny fight between Halley and Avalon was beautifully executed, and the book was well written, even for an advance reading copy. I was hooked into the story from page one, and Alexa managed to incorporate all of her humor into the story.

The book was more of a sassy-humor story than a laugh out loud story, but I loved it nonetheless. In the terms of the 'Yes, No, Maybe' game... a definite Yes!

Frenemies or The Queen Geek Social Club?: Le gasp! Frenemies against the book I said nothing could win against. Well... it's a tie. :) The Queen Geek Social Club is more laugh-out-loud, while Frenemies is more 'Ouch, that's funny!', sassy, witty humor.

Rating: 10 out of 10!

Happy reading!

~Nicole
